Negotiation Strategy and Skill

Have you any good joke (in English)? Collect some; they would help for your negotiation.

1. I showed you a "cold" one at the last session. If you would share a "hot" one with us, we would appreciate--that would sure help your in-class participation evaluation too.

2. Remember: The lesson learned from my "cold" one is that you should always consider the recipient's background before throwing your joke.

    Joke #1 – Greeting cards

In a stationery store, I quickly picked out a card for my wife for our anniversary.
The clerk was surprised by how little time it took me, and she began relating a story about another customer who spent a half-hour searching for the right anniversary greeting.
Noticing the man lingering over one card after another, the clerk went to see if she could help. "Is there a problem?" she asked.
"Yes, there is," he replied ruefully. "I can't find one my wife will believe."

Joke #2 -- Kids on marriage

A little boy was attending his first wedding. After the service, his cousin asked him, "How many women can a man marry?"
    "Sixteen," the boy responded.
His cousin was amazed that he had an answer so quickly. "How do you know that?"
"Easy", the little boy said. "All you have to do is add it up, like the Bishop said: 4 better, 4 worse, 4 richer, 4 poorer."

  • To Michelle and Annie:

    1. They are indeed very interesting jokes.
    2. Memorizing and telling an appropriate jokes will be an effective "cure" when there is snag, awkwardness or even a conflict during your negotiation.

  • To All,

However, you must make sure your listeners have the background to understand your jokes -- they have heard of the priest's blessing and wishing in a wedding service.
